Our Story

Constance “Connee” Mayeron Cowles & Charles “Fuller” Cowles

img_3622Since the late 1980’s, we have worked as a high-energy collaborative team creating two distinct but related bodies of work: deceptively large, indoor and outdoor sculpture; and smaller objects for domestic interiors. Exploring surface, volume, and how materials establish or alter the perception and mood of an environment, we create functional work that includes large-scale chairs, benches, ottomans, and jardinières, as well as commissioned fountains, plazas, and both permanent and temporary installations.

We believe that collaboration enhances art. The work we do together is perhaps best described as highly-tactile, organic sculpture that challenges the relationship between material and form. We love to underscore both the functional and decorative origins of the work. Our art is sympathetic to its environment – it lives in harmony with its surroundings.

At the core of our practice is the desire – and goal – to create a more expressive environment through our visceral art. In our commissioned projects, we seek to understand and internalize the needs of the client – and the space – in order to establish a synergy between the art and the space that it occupies. This interactive process is critical to the final success of the work.
